Our story
It started with a crushed sandwich on the Overland Track.
Stowz is a small team in Hobart, Tasmania, designing gear for people who'd rather carry less. We make one product, in three sizes, and we make it properly.
Why we made it
Day three on the Overland Track, 2021. Tom Reilly opened his pack to find that the lunch he'd carefully wrapped had been flattened into a paste by a stove. The zip-lock bag had split. The 'lightweight' rigid container he'd brought as a backup was taking up more room than his sleeping bag.
He wanted something that behaved like a rigid box when it was full and like a piece of paper when it was empty. Nothing on the market did both, so he spent the next eighteen months prototyping living hinges in a garage in Sandy Bay.
Stowz launched in late 2023. Since then we've shipped over 40,000 containers to hikers, commuters, festival-goers and parents โ most of whom, like Tom, just wanted their bag to be a bit lighter.
โThe best gear is the gear you forget you're carrying.โ
Sustainability
Fewer bags, less plastic, honestly accounted for.
41,600kg
of ocean-bound plastic recovered so far
Recyclable TPU
Our TPU body is mono-material and recyclable through the ARL soft-plastics program. We also take back any worn-out Stowz for regrinding โ send it to us and we'll cover the postage.
Plastic-offset program
Every Stowz sold funds the recovery of 1kg of ocean-bound plastic through our partner Plastic Bank. Third-party audited, reported annually.
Built to last
A ten-thousand-cycle hinge, a replaceable seal and a two-year warranty. The most sustainable container is the one you don't have to replace.
Mission
Make carrying less feel like having more.
We believe good design should disappear. Stowz is our attempt to make one everyday object as light, as durable and as unobtrusive as it can possibly be โ so you can pack it, forget it, and be glad it's there.
